With Markup Library, you can keep every annotation you use regularly at your fingertips. Engineering symbols, stamps, regular notes or markups. Your Markup Library is your personalized storage vault for annotations you want to use over and over again. Add what you need and access any time, on any document.
Markup Library is available to Pro Plus and Pro Unlimited users on the Windows, web iOS and macOS apps. Available on versions iOS 16.4 & macOS 13.3 and above.

How to access my Markup Library
- To add Markup Library to your toolbar, tap the plus icon in your toolbar and navigate to the Pro Tools tab or search Markup Library in the search bar.
- Tap the plus icon on the Markup Library icon or double click the Markup Library icon.
Markup Library will then be added to your toolbar.
How to save an annotation to my Markup Library
- Use the Select tool to select the annotation/s that you would like to add to your Markup Library. A panel of options will appear
- Tap Add to Markup Library (Windows) or Add (iOS and macOS)
Your annotation or group of annotations will be added to your Markup Library and you’ll be able to access it as a single markup on any document.
Types of annotations that can be added to Markup Library
On the Windows app
- Ink annotations (pen and highlighter)
- Shapes and lines (arrows, polyline, polygons and more)
- Snapshot content
- Text annotations (text and callouts)
- Images
On the iOS and macOS apps
- Ink annotations (pen and highlighter)

Adding snapshots of PDF content to the Markup Library (Windows)
Using the Snapshot tool, Drawboard PDF users on the Windows app can 'snapshot' elements on their PDFs like drawing symbols or stamps, alter their color and save them to the Markup Library for use at any time on any document.
To save snapshots of PDF content to the Markup Library:
- Select Snapshot tool and then select the PDF content that you would like to save to the Markup Library
- Tap Add to Markup Library
The snapshot element will now appear in the Markup Library.
To alter the color of your snapshot content before adding it to the Markup Library:
- Select Snapshot tool and then select the PDF content that you would like to change the color of
- Copy (CTRL+C) or cut (CTRL+X) the content and then paste it onto the canvas (CTRL+V)
- Select Edit Properties and then hover over or select Snapshot Color
- Select the color from the color grid or use the color picker to select a color from your page
- Tap Add to Markup Library
Alter the color of saved annotations (iOS and macOS)
On the iOS and macOS apps (versions iOS 16.4 & macOS 13.3 and above), users can edit the color of annotations in the Markup Library
- Open the Markup Library and then tap the 3 dots (next to the search bar)
- Tap Select
- Select the annotations that you wish to update
- Tap Edit and then Color
- Select the color via the Grid, Spectrum or Sliders tab or use the Color picker to choose a color from your document
- Tap anywhere to exit the color modal and then tap Done
How to remove an annotation from my Markup Library
On the Windows app
- Open the Markup Library
- Navigate to the annotation that you would like to remove and then tap the 3 dots underneath it
- Select Remove
On iOS and macOS apps
- Open the Markup Library
- Tap the 3 dots (next to the search bar) and tap Select
- Select the annotations that you would like to remove
- Tap Delete
Your annotation/s will be removed from your Markup Library and you’ll no longer be able to access it/them on any of your documents
Tagging annotations (iOS and macOS)
In the iOS and macOS apps you can tag annotations in three ways
- Add a tag when you save an annotation to the Markup Library
- Add tag to one or more saved annotations
To add and remove tags to/from saved annotations
- In Markup Library, tap the 3 dots (next to the search bar)
- Tap Select
- Select the annotations that you would like to tag
- Tap Edit and then select Info
- Select the tags that you would like use or add a new tags and then Tap Done (to remove tags, tap the X on the tag that you would like to remove)
All selected annotations will now be tagged with your selected tag/s.
Sorting saved annotations in the Markup Library (iOS and macOS)
In the Markup Library, iOS and macOS users - on versions iOS 16.4 & macOS 13.3 and above - can sort annotations by name or group by tag
To group your saved annotations by tag
- Tap the 3 dots (next to the search bar)
- Tap Group by tag
All annotations with a specific tag will appear together.
To sort your saved annotations by name
- Tap the 3 dots (next to the search bar)
- Tap Sort by name
Annotations will appear in alphabetical order.
How to transfer saved annotations from one user account to another
In the Windows, iOS and macOS apps users can transfer their saved annotations to a different user account with simple import/export functionality. Annotations can be transferred between Drawboard PDF accounts as well as between Drawboard PDF and Drawboard Projects accounts.
Importing and exporting annotations using the Windows app
On the Windows app, users can export and import the entire Markup Library.
To export annotations
- Open the Markup Library and tap Export
- Name your file (By default, the file name will be “[your file name].drawboardmarkups”)
To import annotations
- Open the Markup Library
- Tap Import and then locate the file that you wish to import (all Windows Markup Library files have the following naming convention: “[your file name].drawboardmarkups”
- Select the file and your annotations will be imported into your Markup Library
Importing and exporting annotations using the iOS and macOS apps
On the iOS and macOS apps (versions iOS 16.4 & macOS 13.3 and above), users can export and import selected annotations in their Markup Library.
To export annotations
- In Markup Library, tap the 3 dots (next to the search bar)
- Tap Select and then select the annotations you wish to export
- Tap Export and then save the file to your device
By default, the file name will be “[date] Markups.drawboardmarkups”
To import annotations
- Open the Markup Library and then tap the blue plus icon
- Select Import from device
- Locate the file that you wish to import and double tap to import
- Your annotations will be imported into your Markup Library
