Inserting Hyperlinks

Drawboard PDF Pro plans includes the Hyperlink creation tool. Hyperlinks allow you to treat your PDFs as  living documents. 

Hyperlinks can be placed on pictures, text, shapes or whitespace and can direct to weblinks, pages or even exact areas within pages. 

There are two ways to insert a hyperlink into your document, with the Hyperlink tool or by selecting text within the document.

Creating the link

Creation via the Hyperlink tool

1. Select the Hyperlink tool from the tool menu
2. Click and drag the area where you would like to insert the link

Creation via text selection

1. Select some text within the document.
2. Select the create link button from the selection menu

Link Destination and Appearance

Once you have selected the area you would like to create a link for, a popup will appear. This popup has two sections:

• Link Destination
• Link appearance

Link destination

This is where you choose where to direct your link. You can direct the link to:

• A website
• A page within the document
• An area within the document

Link Appearance

This is where you can choose the visual appearance of the link.

You can choose the:

• Border style of the link box
• The thickenss of the line
• The color of the line

Confirming the link

Inserting a link to a website

1. Select the Website option from the dropdown
2. Enter the website URL in the box provided
3. Select your link appearance
4. Click the create button

A page within the document

1. Select the Page option from the dropdown
2. Select your link appearance
3. Either:
   1. Add the page number in the box
   2. Choose the select on doc option and scroll through
4. Click the create button

An area in the document

1. Select the Area in Document option
2. Select your link appearance
3. Click the choose area button
4. Scroll through the document to the area you would like to link to
5. Click and drag a box around the area where you would like to insert the link
6. Click the create link button

Clicking a link

There are two options available when you click a link with the selection tool.

• Follow the link - this option will automatically follow the link to its destination when clicked
• Link options - This will bring up the options associated with the link such as:
  • The destination - when you click it it will take you to the destination
  • Delete the link
  • Edit the link
  • Link settings

Whichever option you choose for the first click then the other option will be available by pressing CTRL+Click.

Editing links

There are two ways to edit a link

With the Hyperlink tool

1. Select the Hyperlink tool
2. Click the link you want to edit
3. Select the pen icon
4. You will have two options
   1. Edit appearance - this will allow you to edit the appearance of the link (color, thickenss, style)
   2. Edit the link - this will allow you to edit the link to option and its destination.

With the selection tool

1. Select the pan or select tool from the toolbar 
2. Click the link you want to edit *(Depending on the link options you have this will either be a click or a CTRL+Click)
3. Select the pen icon
4. You will have two options
   1. Edit appearance - this will allow you to edit the appearance of the link (color, thickenss, style)
   2. Edit the link - this will allow you to edit the link to option and its destination.
