Not quite sure what has changed on the latest set of issued drawings? Need to check that your markups have actually been addressed in the latest version? Need to compare one floor plan with the floor below?
To help you through each of these scenarios (and many more) Drawboard Projects' Overlays tool is incredibly useful. Simply turn on the Overlays tool, select the Overlays settings to add the drawings you wish to compare and then configure the view to show you exactly what you need to see in seconds. Users can overlay up to 5 drawings in Drawboard Projects.
To get started with the Overlays tool:
- Open a drawing you wish to overlay (eg. the latest revision).
- Select the Overlay icon on the top toolbar (next to your drawing Revision).
- The same current and previous revision of the drawing you are on will automatically be opened and the drawing content will turn purple as all the content of your first or primary drawing is shown in a solid red and all the content of your second drawing is shown in a solid blue.
- To overlay additional drawings, tap the Settings cog and then + Add overlay. You can then select the drawing you would like to overlay from the dropdown.
- Once the drawing loads, any differences between each drawing will show up in a different color. You can change the color that appears for an overlay via the color dropdown
- If you wish to remove a drawing that is shown in Overlay, select the delete icon next to the drawing or revision you wish to remove.
- To minimize the menu, deselect the Settings cog
- To move the Overlay dialog box, simply click and drag the top of the box.
To view the annotations on each drawing in the Overlay:
- Open the Overlay options menu.
- Under the drawing that you would like to see the annotations for, turn the Show existing annotations toggle to On.
- The annotations will show up in the color allocated to them in Overlay settings
To shift the overlaid drawing to better align with your primary drawing:
- Open the Overlay options menu.
- Change the Position values to shift the drawing left/right (X field) or up/down (Y field).
- Increase or Decrease the size of the overlaid drawing using the Scale field.
- Rotate the overlaid drawing in 90 degree intervals by selecting the right Rotation option.
Use a combination of the above alignment controls to get your Overlay positioned just right.
Comparing different revisions
Users an choose to overlay various combinations of revisions. For example, let's say a drawing has revisions A, B and C. Users could choose to compare all 3 revisions, or they can choose to compare only revisions A and B, only A and C or they could compare revisions B and C.
To choose which overlays you would like to show:
- Select the Revision dropdown in the top menu
- Select the checkbox next to the revision/s that you would like to show
- Tap Apply
