All Drawboard Projects plans include the Hyperlink creation tool; available on the Web application only. Hyperlinks allow you to treat your Projects as living documents.
Hyperlinks can be placed on pictures, text, shapes, or whitespace and can direct to other drawings or documents, web links, pages, or even exact areas within pages.
Creating the link
Via the Hyperlink tool
- Select the Hyperlink tool from the mark-ups tool menu OR add the Hyperlink tool from the favourites toolbar
- Click and drag the area where you would like to insert the link
Link Destination and Appearance
Once you have selected the area you would like to create a link for, a pop-up will appear. This pop-up has two sections:
- Link Destination
- Link appearance
Link destination
This is where you choose where to direct your link. You can direct the link to:
- A drawing within the project
- A document within the project
- A website
- A page within a document
- An area within the document
Link Appearance
This is where you can choose the visual appearance of the link.
You can choose the:
- Border style of the link box
- The color of the line
- The thickness of the line
Confirming the link
Another drawing within the project:
- Select the Drawing option from the “Link to” dropdown
- Select or search for a drawing (search using the Drawing Number)
- Click the create button
Another document within the project:
- Select the Document option from the “Link to” dropdown
- Select or search for a document
- Click the create button
A page within the document:
- Select the Document option from the “Link to” dropdown
- Select the document that you wish to link to
- Type in the page number
- Click the create button
Inserting a link to a website:
- Select the Website option from the “Link to” dropdown
- Enter the website URL in the box provided
- Click the create button
An area in the document:
- Select the Area option from the “Link to” dropdown
- Select your link appearance
- Click the choose area button
- Scroll through the document to the area you would like to link to
- Click and drag a box around the area where you would like to insert the link
- Click the create link button
Clicking a link
There are two options available when you click a link with the selection tool.
- Go to - this option will automatically follow the link to its destination when clicked
- Link options - This will bring up the options associated with the link, such as:
- Edit the link - Adjust the link destination
- Edit appearance
- Copy or Duplicate the link
- Make a stamp – This will remove the link and add the shape to the stamp library
- Change layer
- Save to the Markup Library
- Delete link
Whichever option you choose for the first click, the other option will be available by pressing CTRL+Click.
Editing links
There are two ways to edit a link
With the Hyperlink tool
- Select the Hyperlink tool
- Click the link you want to edit
- Select the pen icon
- You will have two options
- Edit appearance - this will allow you to edit the appearance of the link (color, thickness, style)
- Edit the link - this will allow you to edit the link to the option and its destination.
With the selection tool
- Select the pan or select tool from the toolbar
- Click the link you want to edit *(Depending on the link options you have, this will either be a click or a CTRL+Click)
- Select the pen icon
- You will have two options
- Edit the link - this will allow you to edit the link to the option and its destination.
- Edit appearance - this will allow you to edit the appearance of the link (color, thickness, style)
