PDF document restrictions are a set of controls embedded into a PDF file to limit or prevent certain actions or edits. These restrictions are often applied to protect the content, ensure authenticity, or control how the document is interacted with.
As of September 2024, Drawboard PDF complies with underlying PDF document restrictions. This means that if a PDF has a particular restriction on it, the restriction is applied in Drawboard PDF and a document owner password is required for access.
For example, if a document is opened in Drawboard PDF that restricts form filling, Drawboard PDF users without the document owner password are prevented from entering data into form fields or interacting with interactive elements.
Note: as long as users have the permission to annotate, they will be able to mark up on the canvas.
PDF Document restrictions include:
- Markup/Annotating
- Filling of form fields
- Modifying the document
- Document manipulation
- Page extraction
- Signing
- Creation of template pages
A document owner password is required to lift document restrictions. If you are not the owner of the PDF document and require access, contact the owner of the document to request the password.
