Drawboard PDF crashes due to certain situations including license, document corruption and more. The following solutions have been known to help.
Hang on loading docs
Cause: This can happen due to a corrupt doc being present in the documents list.
If the documents you have open in Drawboard PDF are saved or do not have any unsaved changes you can try:
- Resetting the app
- Reinstalling the app
- Delete the activedocuments.json file in your app data file. It is located at
- Open File Explorer (Win key + E)
- Enter the following into your address bar:
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Packages\Drawboard.DrawboardPDF_gqbn7fs4pywxm\LocalState\v2 - Delete the file called ActiveDocuments.json
Note: Deleting the ActiveDocuments.json file will make it impossible for you to recover unsaved annotations so only do this if you have saved all your files.
Hang on license check and/or error: 0x803f8001
Cause: This issue is caused by the Microsoft Store licensing and sometimes happens when there is a disconnect between the store and Drawboard PDF.
Sometimes this error message will appear: "0x803f8001 Drawboard PDF is not available in your account”
To resolve this you can try:
- Resetting the Microsoft Store app cache
- Try switching off your internet connection and then launching the app

No message hang
This one is the trickiest and has a number of potential causes, here are some solutions users said have worked for them.
- Switch accounts in Windows/ensure administrator access
- Select the Start button,
- Then on the left side of the Start menu, choose the Accounts icon (or picture)
- Then select Sign out.

- Try to Re-register All Store apps
- Right click on Windows Start
- Right click on Windows Powershell (Admin)
- Copy the following from below and right click in Powershell to paste and hit Enter on your keyboard
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} - Restart your computer

Ensure your Microsoft account and your device's region are correct
- Follow the steps here: Drawboard PDF: Resolving Microsoft Store's currency/location/region settings

If your device's current Microsoft Store location/region is not the same as your Microsoft account's location region, and you have a PRO subscription, it could interfere. This mostly happens when you reset your device or gotten a new one.
- You are running an older version of windows
- In some scenarios, Windows will not allow you to open a Microsoft Store app that has been updated for a newer version of windows while you are running an older version of it.
